The game:
Deployment:
In brief, the Ork strategy was to
get everyone into assault as soon as possible, which worked both due to the
speed of the Trukks and some very bad dice luck for Joel’s Chaos. The Deff
Dread stayed out of the battle as the very first tactical card required him to
take the closest objective.
While the 2 Chaos sorcerers gave
it a good try, the psychic phase didn’t generate very good results (1 Deff
Kopta wounded and 1 Trukk glanced in the whole game). In turn 1, Chaos failed
to destroy any of the Trukks, which moved to let the Boyz assault in turn 2.
Had I not forgotten to disembark them , this would have been the game right
there.
As it was, Joel had kindly
allowed me to roll for reserves after I had forgotten this as well (still a
newbie), and my Stormboyz deep struck in and just missed scattering off the
table using the formation rules. The next turn saw 1 Trukk turned into a ball
of fire by the Hellbrutes which roasted most of its occupants (only the Nob,
Big Shoota Boy, and 1 Slugga boy survived).
A second Trukk was similarly
engulfed by Hellbrute fire, but only 3 died. The Hellbrute’s follow up charge
killed one Boy, but he took a wound from the Nob.
To gain a point for issuing a
challenge, a squad of renegades suicidally charged the Stormboyz, and 2
miraculously survived to issue a challenge to Zagstrukk.
At this point, the Orks drew the
Supremacy objective, which meant that they would gain D3 victory points for
taking 3 more objectives. Instead of chasing the warlord, Da Vulcha Skwad
assaulted the first Rhino and barely glanced it to death, taking the objective
The Meganobz charged, with truly
devastating results, annihilating the squad of renegades guarding the objective
in the middle of the board and scoring 2 tactical victory points. Backed by a
Painboy, they would survive almost the entire Chaos army shooting at them next
turn.
The Battlewagon meanwhile
deffrolla’ed a surviving Rhino and broke off its combi-bolter.
The Lootas meanwhile took
objective #5, and a vicious Boyz charge killed all but the sorcerer in a
Thousand Suns squad
